Above all, Char wants to be effective in addressing the problems you’re hoping massage can treat. Whether it be for relaxation, relieving prolonged stress, treating an injury you’ve suffered, if the way you’ve been standing has betrayed you, or you just slept funny a few days ago, they are interested in understanding and helping your issue.
Char studied at East/West College in downtown Portland, and learned a variety of techniques including Deep Tissue/Swedish, Neuromuscular, Trigger Point, Myofascial Release, Lymphatic Drainage, TMJ/jaw, Acupressure, and Tui Na.
A session with Char always starts with the same question. “What are we looking for, today?” This is your opportunity to express why you’ve come to get a massage, and to tailor the experience toward your preferences. There may be some follow-up questions and some postural analysis before they will give a brief explanation of the massage before leaving you to prepare.
Char offers to walk you through what they find, giving you a better understanding of which specific muscles are being affected and some ideas on how to address those areas, but they also offer a quiet relieving experience where your peace will only be broken if they need to move you or to check in on pressure. Please let Char know if you prefer silence and/or don’t be afraid to ask “What’s that?” when they find something.
Please note that not every technique is for every body, and that Char is willing to change their tools/techniques at any point if the session is ever outside your comfort zone. Trigger point/acupressure points can deliver direct pressure in tense areas. Tui Na and Myofascial Release utilize pinning and cross-fiber techniques which involve stretching the muscle unlike the long relaxing strokes of Swedish massage
