Jillian Balderson, LMT (they/them)

"Jillian is a wonderfully intuitive massage therapist. With working from home, I was having issues with back, neck and shoulder pain. After a session with Jillian, I felt immediate relief and could finally turn my head again! I found the session to be very relaxing but also very therapeutic. I already booked my next appointment." -K.M.

Although they have called Portland home since 2008, Jillian graduated from the Asheville School of Massage and Yoga in 2019. They then continued working with the school for another six months in a graduate program that bolstered their curiosity & commitment. During that time, Jilllian’s bodywork was tailored in the direction of rehabilitation for chronic and acute imbalances and injuries. An intuitive anatomy nerd, Jillian is always paying careful attention to the relationships between muscles, and translating that awareness into therapeutic touch that is effective and equally enjoyable.

Jillian first received massage in 2017 after feeling the physical effects of years of vegetable farming, and was amazed at how valuable the sessions proved to be. The blend of techniques and styles, the sheer minimalism of the art, the amount of body wisdom gleaned, and the true benefit to all involved was nearly dizzying in its abundant advantages. Jillian was hooked.

During a session, Jillian always prioritizes the comfort and safety of the client. Through clear communication, Jillian does their best to ensure that pressure, pace, quality of touch and areas of focus reflect the client’s desires. Jillian aims to restore balance to the body by means of modalities such as myofascial release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue, Swedish and sports massage. Generally, the session begins with permitting the body to soften and receive, then moves into detailed and specific work, before synthesizing the experience so that the body and mind may integrate it wholly.

When out in the world, Jillian can be found touching plants, submerging in any body of water big enough, biking, reading, writing, drawing, camping, exploring and learning!
